Meet the Founder

Jazmine Britton

(she/her) · Afro-Latina · Full Spectrum Doula · Aspiring Student Midwife

Jazmine Britton is a vibrant Afro-Latina with a strong spiritual charge from the rich land that lies below us all. She answered her calling as a birthworker by being a mother to 1 beautiful legacy, a surrogate mother to 1 amazing blessing, and a powerful full spectrum doula to her community.

"Marrying spirituality, tradition and culture with birth — as our ancestors had done before us."

With the wisdom she has gained from her life's experiences, academic studies, certificates, and spiritual alignment, she has molded her path to be an asset in the fight against maternal and infant health disparities in society.

Her lifetime goal is to marry spirituality, tradition, and culture with birth as our ancestors had done in the past — along with farming and herbalism. Her future farm and apothecary will aid in addressing health in the community in a truly holistic way.

The Path

Jazmine's Journey

Every root grows deeper before it blooms. Here is the path that led to Monstera Roots.

2015

The Calling Begins

Jazmine's calling to birth work emerged through years of caring for mothers and infants among family and community. Being exposed early to the maternal health crisis guided her to intentionally study and understand the disparities affecting birthing families.

2019

Became a Mother

After becoming a mother herself, Jazmine felt an undeniable pull toward birth work. Witnessing firsthand how under-supported Black and Brown mothers were in the birth space ignited a fire she could not ignore.

2020

Entering the Birth Room

Jazmine completed her full spectrum training and began serving families in Queens, The Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn — showing up physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually for every birth she was called to.

2022

Mama Doula Inc. Is Born

Recognizing that one doula cannot reach every family who needs support, Jazmine founded Mama Doula Inc. — a collective to bring trained committed doulas to subsidized care to families in underserved New York communities.

2023

Rooting Deeper

As a student midwife, Jazmine deepened her studies, honoring birth as sacred while integrating ancestral herbalism and plant medicine into her care. It was in this season that Monstera Roots — and her vision for a future farm and apothecary — began to blossom.

2025

A Surrogate's Gift

Jazmine carried a child as a gestational surrogate, deepening her understanding of the full spectrum of reproductive experiences — the grief, the joy, the complexity, and the profound power of choice.

2026

Monstera Roots

Today, Monstera Roots is a living testament to everything Jazmine has been sacredly held through. A sanctuary where spirituality, tradition, alignment, culture, and evidence-based care grow together — holding space for every woman who walks through its doors.
